A week before Viv turned 5 months old, we had our 4 month appointment....which meant another round of vaccines. She did much better this time and was done crying by the time we made it out of the exam room. Her stats were 24 inches long (20%), 13 # 7.5 oz (25%), head circumference 41.7 cm (55%). She remained pretty happy throughout the day and didn't spike a fever or even seem sore. She was a trooper!!
Eating solids has gotten better. She still gives me 'that distasteful look' with the first bite every day but willingly finishes it all. She eats two cereal meals a day with a little something else added in to help with flavor. We've tried rice cereal and oatmeal, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, string beans, carrots, and bananas. I would say so far the best reaction I've gotten was from the bananas. We have a handful of purchased baby foods from Bridget but I've mostly been making my own baby food. It's pretty simple and she's obviously not going through a lot of it quite yet.
I've finally got her on a feeding schedule! She eats anywhere from 4-5 ounces in the morning when she wakes up. She gets 1-2 tablespoons of cereal around 11 am and another 4 oz of formula. 4-6 oz of formula at 4pm and more cereal between 6-7pm and then another bottle before bed between 8-9 pm. She definitely eats better at night. She's become a more distracted drinker as well.
Homemade squash and string beans....
The weather has finally been warming up and so we've tried to get outside as much as possible. Nathan's enjoyed the baby bjorne....the baby does ok in it too.
We went on a shopping trip to Des Moines a few weeks ago and she did great. She's still able to wear some of her 3 month clothes but the pants are starting to get too short. She's mostly in 6 month clothes at this point.
She's picked up a few accessories for our trip to Florida in a couple of months....
ISU made it to the Sweet 16 this year....but got beat by UConn, who ended up winning the championship. Story of our ISU lives. At least we have one successful athletic program to cheer for.
Mom and Dad came up and watched the games with us.
We headed down to Washington a few weekends ago and went walking on the Kewash trail. It was pretty windy but nice to get outside and move! I'm loving my Fitbit I got for Christmas. It's nice to keep track of how many steps I take during the day.
Dad has started his calving season so we went over to the farm to see the newest babies.
My college friend Amy and her son Carter came to see us from Illinois last weekend. Carter is 7 and enjoyed entertaining Viv. We had great weather and it was fun to catch up! Amy is a natural baby whisperer.
Viv is *almost* sitting up on her own. She does pretty well front and back....
...but hasn't gotten the side to side part down quite yet. I liked this picture because it looks like she's lounging around in her leisure suit....but really she just toppled over.
She's still sleeping in our room but we have transitioned into a pack 'n play. She's been scrunching down in the rock 'n' play and I'm afraid she's gonna slip over the end. Plus, I feel like it's inhibiting her progress in rolling over. No night is ever the same with her...sometimes she surprises us and sleeps through the night. Others she's still up 5-6 times to have her pacifier put back in. I've come to to determine she's a very light sleeper (joy!). She's not quite as frustrated with tummy time as she used to be but she's not consistently rolling over. She still hates to be on her back after too long....the girl just wants to sit up!! She's got to have baby abs of steel as much as she crunches to try to sit up!
My mom bought her this cute little bunny hat in preparation for Easter.
Out getting our exercise!
